Mongolia is rich in wildlife. Birdwatchers, know that many species of birds, including rare migratory visitors can be seen in and around the capital, Ulaanbaatar.
In order to raise awareness, an exhibition entitled ‘A gift to our town birds’ has taken place at the Freshwater Resources and Nature Conservation Centre which is located in Ulaanbaatar's Zaisan District. Environment activists have made bird nesting boxed using fallen trees.
Mongolia has 502 species of birds; 80 percent of these are migratory birds, visiting the country only in the summer months. The most visible - and noisiest - feathered summer visitor to the capital is the Pacific Swift, which migrates to Mongolia and Eastern Russia from South East Asia and nests in the eaves of buildings.
